Today was my first day skiing in New Zealand this year. It felt amazing being back on snow and I am hoping that I stay in one piece while down here. It's a brisk night which means that the heavy, wet snow on the mountain should start to freeze and give us a good surface for training.
Jet lag is killing me, our next date will be much better... I promise.
Midway through summer, I am anxious to get back on snow. Still, there is much to do before we leave for New Zealand in just over 2 weeks.
This week, a lot of the guys came in for a dryland camp, testing and karting camp.
-Monday began with the strongman competition. My team was able to consistently do well and take the ski team's strongman title.
-Tuesday we had a killer core session followed by a volleyball tournament and some rugby in the afternoon.
-Our karting camp is on Wednesday and will consist of 4 hours of instruction followed by a 1 hour long "Grand Prix" race. Believe it or not, there are many connections between driving kart/cars and ski racing. The tactics, technique and focus aren't perfectly complimentary but there are some serious overlaps.
-Thursday and Friday are set up as our testing period and we will have meetings with various people throughout the week.
I will try and get some video up of the strongman competition in the next few days but in the meantime, check out this video I made from a little session on the Jordanelle. Some insight to our life outside of the gym featuring Andy Philips, Ace Tarberry, Colby Granstrom and Nolan Kasper (sorry for the third person speech there).
