Reflection

As I sit in bed the day before the first men's world cup slalom of the season, I can't help but remember where I came from only five months ago. Along with tomorrow being the first men's wc slalom, it is my first race back after having hip surgery in August. I've worked very hard these past months trying to get myself back into the shape that I wanted to be for racing while getting the necessary rest to allow myself to heal. Training on snow has been coming along too. I started off free skiing, then running brush courses, then working my way into normal gates and even fore ran a few NorAms last week. Things were coming along great and I was fully confident with where I was at with my skiing.

Then yesterday I got sick and had to go to the hospital. I tell you what, hospitals suck and spending most of the night there wasn't any fun. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time I've been sick before a race. Last season I got really sick going into europa cup finals and world cup finals leaving me with zero energy which reflected in my results. Hopefully I will be able to muster up the energy for one of the highlights of my racing career, a race on home soil! Skiing is a very European dominated sport so to have the once in a lifetime chance to race a world cup in the US means I will sacrifice rest in lieu of racing tomorrow. That and I could be starting top fifteen. Fingers crossed...
